"Colour was important element as was the liberal use of gold, whether that be mere paint or the real thing. The sun definitely shone on the Art Deco period. The world might well have been in a financial slump, but there was never to be a cloudy day as far as the design world was concerned.
  Designs were never static. Movement was the key to many motifs and pattern work, whether that be in textiles or wallpaper design. The design work reflected the appeal, if not of speed, then at least of genuine movement. Much of the work shown here seems purposely restless and produced in order to keep the eye moving"
